How to check if your phone supports eSIM
Not sure which model you have, or bought it abroad? Check the phone itself:
- iPhone: open Settings > General > About and scroll down to find the EID (your eSIM identifier).
- Samsung Galaxy: go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager and look for Add eSIM.
- Google Pixel: go to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Add SIM and look for Set up an eSIM.
iPhone 17, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo: eSIM at a glance
- iPhone Air and iPhone Duo have no SIM tray, so they work with eSIM only.
- iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17e, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max bought in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan and some other countries have no SIM tray and work with eSIM only. Models sold in other countries and regions also keep a nano-SIM tray.
- China mainland: only iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM.
Apple iPhone eSIM compatible models
Apple supports eSIM on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and later models. iPhone Air and iPhone Duo have no SIM tray at all. Some recent models are eSIM-only in certain countries, and models sold in China mainland, Hong Kong and Macao can differ:

How to Check if Your Phone is Unlocked
Even if your device is on the compatibility list, it must be unlocked to accept an eSIM from TravelyData. A locked phone is restricted to the carrier from which it was purchased.
Checking Carrier Lock on iOS
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to General and tap About.
- Scroll down to the Carrier Lock section.
- If it says No SIM restrictions, your iPhone is unlocked.
Checking Carrier Lock on Android
- Go to Settings and select Connections or Network & Internet.
- Tap on Mobile Network.
- Look for Advanced or Network Operators.
- Turn off Select automatically. If you see a list of multiple different carriers, your phone is likely unlocked. If only one carrier appears, it may be locked.
- Alternatively, check Settings > About Phone > Status to look for SIM lock information.
