Arriving in Lima: Metro de Lima Card and Local Navigation

Arriving at Lima Jorge Chávez Airport (LIM) is busy. Plan rideshares online, and buy a Metro card for Line 1 transit in Lima. Note that cards can only be recharged with Sol (PEN) cash. Pre-booking your tickets or using official apps like Peru Public Transit on Wikipedia ensures you travel at standard rates.

Cash vs Card in Peru: Essential Payment Tips

Cash is highly preferred in Peru outside major establishments. Credit cards are accepted in Lima and Cusco tourist spots, but carrying Peruvian Sol (PEN) is necessary for entry tickets, markets, and local buses. Tourists are recommended to use card options as the primary payment method during their journey. Outbound links to government tourism guidelines can be found on the Official Peru Tourism Portal.
