Last updated: 31 October 2026, 00:50 CET (Rome time). Sources checked: MIT strike register (updated 31/10/2026). CGSSE calendar was unreachable at check time.
Past strikes on 28–30 October are no longer listed as upcoming. The next dates travellers should watch are Friday 6 November (ENAV at Bari airport, 13:00–17:00) and Monday 9 November (Italo-NTV rail, with an 8-hour staff stoppage and a separate 22-hour crew stoppage). Milan ATM and Venice-area ATVO are listed for 13 November; a CUB/SGB national rail strike and a CGIL general strike follow on 20–21 November.
This page is our running calendar of Italian transport strikes. We rebuild the table from Italy’s official Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) strike register. When the Strike Guarantee Commission (CGSSE) calendar is reachable we cross-check it. It covers national strikes and the bigger regional and city ones that travellers are most likely to meet.

How guaranteed hours work on Italian trains
Under Italy’s strike law for essential public services (Law 146/1990), rail operators must run minimum services, and they publish them. On its guaranteed services page (Italian), Trenitalia says:
- Regional trains: essential services run in the busiest hours, 06:00–09:00 and 18:00–21:00 on weekdays, and 07:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00 on public holidays.
- Long-distance trains: only the trains in Trenitalia’s published list of guaranteed services are protected.
- Trains already running when the strike starts still go to their final destination if they can reach it within one hour. After that, they may stop at an earlier station.
Other rail companies, including Italo, set their own guaranteed services and publish them on their websites. For flights, Italy’s civil aviation authority ENAC says on its guaranteed flights page that flights in the protected bands of 07:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00 must operate during strikes. Buses, trams and metros follow local agreements, so each city’s transport company publishes its own times.
What travellers should do
- Check your exact train or flight with the operator or airline one or two days before, and again the evening before. A strike listing does not say which services will run.
- Use the guaranteed bands. If you can, travel inside the protected hours, and give yourself time to finish the trip before the band ends.
- Watch the evening before a rail strike. Some national rail strikes start at 21:00 the evening before, so late trains that evening can be affected.
- Have a plan B for airports. On strike days, check how you will get to the airport if trains or buses stop, and allow extra time.
- Keep mobile data on. Changes, cancellations and rebooking options are shared through operator apps and websites, often at short notice. Choose an Italy eSIM plan

FAQ
Is there a train strike in Italy this week?
As of 31 October 2026 the MIT register no longer lists the late-October USB strike among upcoming actions. The next national rail stoppages listed are on Monday 9 November 2026 at Italo-NTV (an 8-hour staff strike and a separate 22-hour crew strike).
Will any trains run during an Italian rail strike?
Yes. Trenitalia runs regional trains from 06:00 to 09:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00 on weekdays, plus a published list of guaranteed long-distance trains. Other operators, including Italo, publish their own lists.
Are flights affected by Italy strikes?
ENAV staff at Bari airport are listed for 6 November (13:00–17:00), and ENAV staff at Milan Malpensa for 22 November (24 hours, with Bari flights noted as guaranteed). ENAC says flights in the 07:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00 bands must operate during strikes. Check with your airline.
What is a precettazione?
It is a government order under Italy’s strike law that can limit a transport strike, for example by postponing it. Always re-check the MIT register and operator notices before you travel, because hours can change after such an order.
Where can I check official Italian strike dates?
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport strike register (scioperi.mit.gov.it) and the CGSSE calendar (cgsse.it) list announced strikes. Rail operators such as Trenitalia, Trenord and Italo publish notices for their own services.
